Well since I'm new here and this is my first post, I'll tell you a bit about my car first. It's a 1980 4-door Malibu. Nothing fancy, looks totally stock (I even run steelies with dog dishes), except for the duals coming out the back. Interior is the same way. Bench seat with shifter on the column, and a baby seat in the back. But don't let this fool you, the car moves lol.
So the other day I am on my way home. As I am coming up on an inter section I see one of the many RHD Skylines that seem to have showed up in my city lately. This one is painted flat black, has pink anodized rims, no hood, big huge intercooler, loud turbo, big rice exhaust, race seats, racing belts, and a rice steering wheel. Well anyway, he is waiting to turn into my lane. As I pass the intersection he pulls out hard. All I can hear the BOV coming up behind me. Before he can pass me we end up side by at a red light. He gives a little rev, so I do the same. Then he just looks over at his barbie doll girlfriend and snickers. My car launched perfectly. It was only about 3-4 blocks untill the next red light, but he couldn't even touch my rear bumper the whole time.
Now, this is a race I should have lost. I've heard those things have like 400HP, plus AWD too. But his lack of shifting skills were a big help I think. I'm eagerly waiting for a rematch lol.
It's such a good feeling to beat these ricers with a 30 year old 4-door sedan sporting a baby seat in the back lol.

Congrats. Hopefully the baby wasn't in the baby seat while racing, but welcome to the site!

A stock Skyline GT-R isn't that powerful, they had a law in Japan a few years ago prohibiting auto makers from building production cars with more than 280HP. A stock Skyline GT-R has around 276HP, and that's from the flywheel. Almost every top-of-the-line car from Japan (Japan-Specs) has around 280HP; Imprezas, Supras, Evos, Skylines, RX7s, etc.

The German look at the suspension, the American look at the engine, the Italian look at the interior, the Japanese look at everything, the Redneck doesn't look at anything, the Canadian look at the girl selling it...

They had a 'gentlemans agreement' not to go over that amount. But that's what they're rated for. It doesn't mean automakers didn't lie(they did) and go over that amount.

My freind Chris says that the first gen skyline gtrs (the r33 ) actually made about 400hp. I dont know how true this is or not, but I do know that automakers do lie about the amont of power that cars make. For instance the 93 to 99 Supra JDM spec is rated at 300hp while the USDM spec one is rated at 320hp.

The Supra analogy isn't a good one because there can be many differences from country to country based on fuel, emissions, etc. However, a good thing to point out that automakers do lie about HP, is the RX8. Mazda revised the power ratings and being sued by owners saying it didn't make the power it was supposed to.
